momentarily bored

so i'm up here writing my day's events...while Ww's marking compositions and occasionally getting amused by them...and we'll laugh like mad. (oh dear sorry kids) but what they write can so cute!..and ridiculous really.

we went out for my bday lunch today...he zipped home right aft sch (also because his famished) and we took a long ride to Orch..and a long walk to Tanglin. why? just to eat at Don Noodles (we had this 1-for-1 voucher mah). by the time we ate it was 3pm. and i guess we were so enticed by the food that i forgot to take a photo of it. oh the japanese curry beef was fantastic! must try if you do go there...it's so tender and according to Ww substantial. haa..even better than my salmon in garlic sauce. great food anyways. wished i took a pic of it tho...but by the time i remembered we were almost finishing le.

After that we walked around Tanglin, checked out some super expensive but really nice sofas at i-forgot-the-brand-name-place. ate gelato and went home. (haha..how eventful...but this is how we celebrate good days...eat!) tho Ww asked what i would like for my bday...um..i really got no idea. my spending patterns depend on my mood (i feel like buying bags mood) and depend on the need. for now...i dunno what i want. i thot of writing a wish list but all i can think of as a present is $300k to clear the house debt..hahaha. other than that...i like to be surprised. i would love any almost fei but not that fei stuff, just no clothing please.

i'm starting work tmr! i hope i can sleep tonight.

What makes you pound the table?

"The twenties is a discovery of who you are, but more importantly whose you are. Take time to reflect on the way in which God has wired you."
Live to work? or work to live? frm eons ago, walking up the slope to school, i had a thought that i must do something that i love, not something i have no choice. i guess that's the reason why God put different passions in our hearts for...the reason why we have so varied interests.

"Be willing to forge ahead with a career in which you find it surprising to get paid for having such fun. You'll never regret it, no matter how small the paycheck may be. What stirs your soul? When do tears well up in your eyes? What makes you pound the table?"
aha...i forget this usually...sometimes i really do decide that i just want the job because i need the money. and it really isn't always easy to find what makes me pound the table. i'm not as single-minded as i would wish i am...and sometimes i don't even realize what i like.

one of the questions in this chapter was "What yould you do it you could make $1 million doing anything?" me? i would start a Christian magazine for youths...and a women's Christian magazine. we'll see how....

Chapter 1: Perspectives

This is interesting....
A mother enters her daughter’s bedroom and sees a letter over the bed. With the worst premonition, she reads it, with trembling hands:
It is with great regret and sorrow that I’m telling you that I eloped with my new boyfriend. I found real passion and he is so nice, with all his piercings
and tattoos and his big motorcycle. But it’s not only that mom, I’m pregnant and Ahmed said that we would be very happy in his trailer in the woods. He wants to have many more children with me and that’s one of my dreams. I’ve learned that marijuana doesn’t hurt anyone and we’ll be growing it for us and his friends, who are providing us with all the cocaine and ecstasies we may want. In the meantime, we’ll pray for the science to find the AIDS cure, for Ahmed to get better, he deserves it. Don’t worry Mom, I’m 15 years old now and I know how to take care of myself. Some day I’ll visit for you to know your grandchildren. Your daughter, Judith.

PS: Mom, it’s not true. I’m at the neighbor’s house. I just wanted to show you that there are worst things in life than the school’s report card that’s in my desk’s drawer…I love you!”

I started this morning's devotion with c1 of the book "Perspectives. A spiritual life guide for twenty somethings" by Colin Creel. i'm halfway thru my twenties. so fast and there are many many ppl whom i know who are in their 20s. it's an interesting phase of life...just as other phases are but i'm in this one now. it's the time where adult life kinda starts. somewhat for ppl like me who have gone thru sec sch-jc-uni. then you're thrown into a world of your own choices...no more which school to go. so...

just as prov 16:9 says.."In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines his steps."
so..Life isn't always what you expect it to be.
I planned some...but most of the time i don't really know where i would want to go. meeting Ww wasn't what i planned either. (how can you plan such stuff?haa..) and we didn't really meet either...we just somehow got to know each other better over a short course of time. not that i didn't know him already. but i didn't plan that i wanted to meet my future husband then...God did...very interestingly.
and Ww pointed out that long before i had wanted to do ID...and i'm back at it. yeah. anyway i went to aki sch because there's no other sch offering degree courses that has ID, aki was closest. but it turned out i had a 1 yr extra because halfway thru i decided i wanted something else. i came out of sch and still wanted something else. God is hilarious...and i'm back at what i thought i wanted in the beginning.

i like what the author mentioned about the "where's Waldo" analogy to help us refocus our gaze..."You know he's in the picture, but sometimes he is easier to find than others. The more time spent staring at Where's Waldo pictures, the easier it is to find Him because you know what he looks like. In the same way, the clearer the picture you have of Christ, the easier it will be to find him in the midst of all the confusion. Fixate your eyes on Christ, and everything else will fall by the wayside.
Life isn't always what you expect it to be, but stay obedient, cling to His promises, and it can be even better."

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." Proverbs 3:5-6

Filled weekend

It's approaching the end of the month. and something to look forward to is, interestingly, work! on wednesday. :) so i have my so called 2 more days of holidays before then. i thot i could get something done on friday but was called off to help temp at at recep at a bank. earned $ that day not doing much...i read my book most of the afternoon.

it was a nice weekend anyway.

had time to play badminton with Ww's colleague & her bf today..then had dinner tgthr..then came home and had time to do devotion together, finally actually. we haven't like done that for quite a while because when school & work started we just didn't have time to really sit down to do so. we juz wanted to nua or do something else or just talk. but serious talk like this is good. (in b/w my MIL came to chat abt all kinds of stuff for 1/2 hr..and we got distracted to finish up some marking & then the emails & then his exam papers to vet).

anyway planning for the future is impt...as i've come to realize. of course Ww's the kind of person who plans for the future (almost like a hobby). so even before we bought a house, we've explored all ways we could to use it as an investment, only to realize that our gov is too smart for us (really...it's hard to try wring any money frm investing in hdbs...not the kind of investment you can do in america). so he devised this spreadsheet calculating how long it would take us to pay back our present to-be-house, with all we have and how much savings we can save...etc. honestly only ppl like him will go to that extent...it's not so in my blood. but it's great he does that. hee.
why i thot of that was because i've heard stories of ppl buying flats and selling them and regretting it after that. was it because of lack of knowledge? or understanding of the market? it really isn't easy figuring all these out. but of course sometimes like my mum, it really is not out of her choice. but we hope we can stay at where we bought for as long as we can ba.

i have a bad memory...i had wanted to blog something about something i was enlightened about...but i forgot already. argh.

i choose X

i flipped and turned in bed last night for a long time before i could fall asleep. (maybe it's coz i took a nap that aftnn) but i couldn't stop thinking of the jobs...and particularly one. too much fantasizing about it i found it hard to make my brain stop thinking of it.

when everything comes, it comes all at once.

i had an interview at 2pm. another at 4pm.
both offered me the job.
both are really interesting.
after the 1st one i thot mmm...i could really go for it...the ppl there are really eager for me to join them...but i had to tell them i had to consider because there's another job offer as well. i guess coz they're pressed for time as well.
at the 2nd interview i was trying to ask questions...and almost ready to find any fault with it. but oh whell...their training and mentorship, the work environment and flexibility of time won me quite over. and whell...this job is so relevant to what i was studying even tho i wasn't really looking out of such. of course...the factor that wins me over most is...this has 1/4 times more annual income than the first..and with much potential for more (depends on how hard i work lo).

i went home kinda light hearted. i would have splurged on something big like expensive ice-cream..but too bad there aren't any around.

tomorrow's the time to drop the news...always harder to drop the bad news than the gd. the 2nd choice one gave me till monday...or even longer to consider but i think i'll tell them tmr instead.

to add on to my exhilaration (i'm kinda trying to control my use of words and my emotions), my RELEVANT PACKAGE CAME TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! taaaadaaaaaaaa!

my 1) subscription 2) a S-size t-shirt that seems still too big, for Ww. not my most fav design but it's the best so far...that has a S-size (you know how much larger in size those americans are) 3) Perspectives book.
US$29.95 for all of them...and add a $9.50 for shipping..eww. i hate buying from overseas..the shipping kills u. i'm still contemplating of buying that wall sticker for my sis room...which when you add shipping costs will snowball to S$100 :S one day...one day...or anyone in US who can buy for me???

choose x or y?

it's the thot for the day. so for the afternoon of the day, i tended towards X...then at night, i somewhat preferred Y. argh! choices choices. this morning i told God that whichever job i land up in, i'll leave it up to Him. (hmm..to think i can leave the decision to God). i got a call in the morn to go for the 2nd interview, (yays! some news!) but then another call in the afternoon to go for another 2nd interview. (uh-oh...now it seems like i might need to choose a bit).

lets see, X, according to my jc friends, is mo dynamic; according to another friend, to go for the one that can earn more; and according to me, is something i would like to do for fun...but not sure what is it like if it's work, somewhat flexible working hours.
then Y, according to my jc friends...don't go back there! (it's our school..and to them it's surely less dynamic even tho i did mention it isn't really just admin..there's quite a bit of PR required); according to me..it's near home, somewhat familiar environment, work for gov (so all the benefits stuff), very stable job. i've suspect i probably overdid the chat session...saying too much things too well...somewhat as a ex-lit student and a i-love-humanities student...you somehow can find a way to explain anything.
so which? i really don't know. God please give me wisdom to choose.

had dinner with jc friends tonight. they were kinda busy so we only started dinner at 8pm..too many OTs, too much work. i was early so i shopped around...but only to land back at Esprit. ah...20% off regular priced items, and additional 10% off discounted items...for EDC members only. so tempting. i needed to buy a pants that fit nicely and viola! there was one. $64 work pants (after discount)...lovely snug pants. a bit ex tho :( but hopefully a gd one that will last me a long time. and bought some cheapo super discounted espirt top for $9. was so tempting tt Pegs bought 2 tops for $17.50..esprit leh!

anyway we talked till 1030pm. phew...updating updating. laughing. and where are they gonna stay in BKK (they got this air asia free tickets..and a motley crew of gals are going BKK..and holiday we've talked since jc times but never realized till now). i'm not going because it's kinda hard to leave home...and i don't wanna go bkk anymore! dun wanna spend $$ there le lah..i rather stay in sg and spend on things i really need or want to buy. tho i know it's the company of friends. but...i'll save that money.
and they're all talking abt changing jobs...it's like time le..after almost 2 yrs of working, to move on to somewhere else.

i did a substantial amount of washing today. it's actually quite satisfying to do the laundry, to keep that crisp sunned clothes...all smelling nice & fresh. tho a short burst of downpour had me scuttering to keep the clothes...and the sun came out like within half hour after that...grrr~

tomorrow come!

Interviewed

I had a most interesting interview today. it was 45mins long. and i talked a lot because i was asked questions that required lengthy answers. nice place. nice ppl. every interview is like selling yourself, what's good about you, how are you suitable for the job etc etc.

so there's two potential jobs...but subject to whether they choose me in the end. so i can't do much now but pray...and leave it to God. also because of the pay. someone was telling me that the pay matters, get the highest pay you can...whatever the job. of course sometimes we can't get that highest pay because of qualifications (that's so true when u work for the gov coz they see your qualifications..big big difference), or it's just that you aren't really suitable for that position (i won't ever ever do those promotions or sales kinda stuff..and i realized i surely won't want to sell insurance or even unit trusts etc etc), or sometimes the work place is too far (don't ever make me work in the west of sg), or the working timing is just too mad (no shift work please)...so many factors. so it's about finding that right job fit. right time, right pay, right place...and enjoyable job scope. how complicated anyway.

that aside. i swam 20 laps today! quite an achievement. tho i overslept 1 hr in the morning and got to the pool later than i planned. but it was a cloudy day...so i had little worries about getting any much suntan.
but that calories burnt got replaced with a feasty potluck at ghjf's hse...our ex-cell gathering. was really great to catch up and play with cute babies. it really has been a while...and my baked rice was yummy tho i thot it was a bit dry after the baking...

gosh..i must be really greedy...i realized i keep posting food. oh whell...next up is tmr...dinner with my jc gang of friends...what better way to meet up with people...with food.

i'll be waiting for a reply frm the id firm this week..hopefully, and another on monday. more waiting to go!

food weekend

weekend was full. but good.

leaders' meeting (aka cgl interaction) was encouraging. we discussed about what is the role of cell and future developments in cell. it's quite a good time of rethinking and being reminded. being a cgl for like 2 years, i'm still learning. every zone has their diffrent challenges. and like everything that we do, we always have to go back to remember why we are here for. what's our purpose? and what wq said abt encouraging each other into christlikeness is so true. what better environment to do it than in cell. tho wat time we have is so little tgthr that everytime we get together, it's so special..it's so crucial. tho the challenge is that it's so dynamic..somewhat, because everyone's so different, not just their schedule but their personailities, their circumstances, their wants and desires. and there's so much to communicate...or not communicate when i really can't catch up with getting everyone to know about soemthing tgthr. i admit i sometimes neglect them, neglect giving thought to where God wants them to be and fall into the trap of following schedules. oh but it's kinda fun because being small as a cell, we're kinda versitile. and it is exciting because i do directly see how God answers prayers...even prayers and requests that are so simple, and those i didn't even pray for. for sure God doesn't neglect us.

had a great dinner at airport with cell aft that. we dropped by the new food court to eat. i'm appalled by how ex the food is...$5.95 for wanton mee? feel a bit bo hua...so we went to t1 staff food court and ate...ahh..my fav salmon rice.aha..

i ate faster than i took the photo of it..hmm.

oh it's a weekend of gd food...went to Soup Restaurant on sunday with mummy & meimei after my many many tuitions...for this

Samsui chicken or something..u dip the chicken in that watever sauce, wrap it in the lettuce and munch it up...while all the sauce drips all over. quite mess to eat it anyway.

and yummi soup & fish which i still only took after i finished the food...next time i must take it before eating instead. aiyah.
it's some set for 2 but 3 of us couldn't finish it..i ate up most of the fish anyway...how can anyone waste such good fish?

hav many things to do today. i washed the clothes lo! then later got another new interview...still while waiting for that tj one. and finally i'm going for my facial...coz i finally called and made the appointment. hav books to return. new novels to read. :)

God loves you, ok?

this from my morning reading...
"We begin to realize that God’s revelation of love for us is not merely like that of a Hallmark card—it's more of an invitation for Him to work in us and conduct major renovations in our lives."
[For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Eph 2:10]

"Through this love, God has taken active involvement to slowly mold our lives, fulfilling His role of Faithful. In our limited vision and shortsightedness, all we need to rely on is trust"
Lord, help me to trust you. in reality i'm shortsighted...really finding hard to see things far, tho God doesn't give us contact lenses to see the future, He gives us the assurance of trust...

"To trust the simple phrase “God loves you” is to acknowledge God’s rearranging of the areas of your life that seem immovable, areas that seem impossible for you to be at peace with, maybe even areas of your life that you refuse to let go of. To trust this sentence is to believe that God is constantly at motion to show his beloved that the work of His hands equals the intense emotion of His heart."
[But I am like an olive tree
flourishing in the house of God;
I trust in God's unfailing love
for ever and ever. Psalm 52:8]

it's gonna be a busy weekend...something to keep my mind off for a while...till the weekdays come again...and the long wait probably over. with trust.

Itchy bity scratchy

I'm not feeling itchy. i just like the way these 3 words go.
the scorching sun has finally gave way to spatter of rain. nice. if only i'm not just looking at the leaves of the palm tree outside my window.

i thought i would go for my facial today. but i didn't. i couldn't figure out what to do. i thought i could start on some project but i dunno what to start on. i don't want to watch tv coz i dunno what's on. i don't really want to go out because i don't know where to go...and i don't want to spend any money. i'm trying to read something. but i can only settle for some novel because non-fiction is a lil too much to digest. somehow i don't really want to think too much...there are places where i don't want to go thinking upon, don't feel quite ready to ponder about those things, things that i wanted to do but am not sure if i do now, things that i thot was really exciting but i dunno how.

my bottom left wisdom tooth is also itching to get out...and the gum all around there is kinda sore and soft, which i suspect also makes me really thirsty since yesterday. i think this is the last of my wisdom teeth coming out. the 1st came out and gave me lotsa problems and the 2nd & 3rd got extracted by the dentist. quite a surgery tho...and the next day i still had a crit presentation. so is it true that i'm getting wiser? ha..

So what i'm looking forward to now? the interview on tues! gosh come soon please! i went for one yesterday with an ID company. quite good & interesting...esp their renumeration schemes...didn't know it works that way. whell...it'll also depend whether they call me for a 2nd interview. but it gives me time to wait for that tuesday one.

meanwhile i'm feelin a bit fei4.

at least tonight i'm goin over to help mei with her sch work and chit chat...poor Ww has tution tonight coz he has a full-day course tmr & hav to change the tuition...and then prep sharing on sunday and go batam. won't see him much this weekend. actually come to think of it i'm so much more busy on weekends than on weekdays. 4 tuitions to go, 1 cgl meething, 1 cell dinner, church and 1 dinner with mum & mei.

I'm trying not to rot

Waiting : "remain in readiness for some purpose"

I'm trying not to fret. But i can't seem to read much either. but if you give me a novel mayb i can keep in attention for a long time but not a non-fiction book for now please. i'm reading Time mag and also waiting for my RelevantMag to come (with a book and a shirt)...it's non-fiction tho.

What do i do while waiting?
1) Housework - i try to help around the house as much even tho my mother-in-law does it most of the time. tho when she goes for a holiday next week (genting again!) i'll be in charge of all the clothing management & vacuuming the floors.
2) Watching TV - actually only watching Debbie Travis Makeover at 12-1pm...faithfully.
3) Read - ok....in all bits and pieces...magazines, my QT book...that's all. i'm searching for this elusive "The English Teacher" by R.K. Narayan which is a lit book that i'm helping to teach my student with.
4) Pack - i've cleared the seemingly mess on the table that doesn't fail to mess up again after a night's work is over. too many 'official documents' to keep track, hdb, banks, redemption discounts, cards etc...
5) Internety stuff - like check mail, look out for more job openings to send my resumes, and recently a lame flash game called H.K. cafe...occasionally i get inspired by some ID stuff, record some useful info stuff, chat in msn, and blog...like now.

Things i aim to do
1) Exercise - either swim or run. i tried...but have been unable to wake up at a decent time of 730am anymore. so i'll continue to try again.
2) Go for my long overdue facial - the last time i went? nov 2005
3) Cut my hair - my fringe is getting too long...and the hot season is coming
4) Go out to read - because i can't seem to find a reading corner at home to help me concentrate while reading

Things i'll be doing
1) Tuition...still tuitioning...
2) Go for interview tmr - it's a new one. but i really am not sure if i would want to take this job, go and find out more. still the tj one will take priority over this one.
3) Reflect - a very difficult thing to do at times...i do it best on bus rides usually.
4) Pray - it has to go on...because even though God knows what this entire outcome will be, prayer helps me to focus and be in the act of seeking Him...and find a peace of heart.
What's up for valentine?
We're simple people...and don't like to play with all the advertising gimmicks and neither do we like spend extravagantly on stuff like these. So great food, great time together is great already. :)

so guess what we ate?...as usual...

seafood platter for two :)

we've eaten this so many times i've lost track of it. this time..maybe coz we ate at 3pm and coz Ww was famished...we cleared the whole platter. clean.

The most valentine's stuff i did? was helping my meimei bake cookies (3 batches of them...coz the 1st one failed...she tried recalling some recipe she did long ago and i guessd she can't recall it much). we tried dipping it in chocolate but it failed prob coz of the chocolate used. and after that package them. cut heart shaped cards for heart-wands. and then help her with her maths CA the next day...quite a feat in a night...i onli reached home at 1145pm. phews...and just in time to say happy valentine's to Ww...but he was faster at it...when the iMac annouced "it is 12am".

I have moved to blogger. Here. err because i kinda like the blog archive to be in months rather than the previous 5 posts? tho xanga is still not bad for its many advantages. i'll try out blogspot for now. anyway maybe it's time for the move as well. i've been at xanga for 2 years. time to archive it. not that i don't trust the cyber-storage...but these are the things you just keep somewhere in your house until you one day discover it.

It's day 9 of job search. and i have to wait till day 15 for my v.impt interview. i understand why it's next week and not this week (JAE 2006). and it's not really an interview according to the VP he kinda asked me down for a chat..hmm. so what shall i do these 6 days? Wait. and in this 9 days of waiting i've become impatient...sometimes i feel i get impatient with other things as well...(tho hardly with Ww, he's always so sweet and funny that he always makes me forget all these things or just makes it better) so now i don't know whether to take on any other interviews. what if the interview i've been waiting for doesn't get thru and i don't get the job...then i'll have to start my search all over again. ggrrrr~~

and i thought would God want of me. and He isn't gonna tell me this is the ONE. i feel like i needed to learn how to 1) Wait 2) keep seeking Him 3) keep praying.
other than that i feel like i'm playing a game of trial and error. i go to an interview and find that i can't work that timing (i don't want shift work and saturdays), or that i lack the experience. sighz. it's not easy.

meanwhile...i'm a little bored. i'm trying to find things to fill my time...other than my tuitions...i did some housework today...con't to research the interior stuff or maybe i'll go for my facial..which i haven't done so for a long long time.

"Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes." Psalm 37:7
(tho...what wicked schemes?...)
