It's a hectic week, actually. And it gets more hectic. Today started at 7am...and ended at 1130pm. Tmr i'm looking forward to go home early.
After viewing a flat today, i went to a last min BBQ at east coast with my colleagues. it was part a stress-reliever...for them...and part birthday thingy. can't believe they so li4 hai4 to plan a BBQ at a last min. there was too much happening for today i couldn't catch up...it's like i met 3 clients in a day (which also means more work after this).
and on my way to east coast...had a travelling time to talk to my 师父 aka mentor about stuff. i dun really know how to summarize...it's like i blog coz i itch to say something out (and Ww is like fast asleep coz he's so tired out) otherwise i'll have a lot to tell him about. anyway mentors are very helpful ppl, they're are guides God puts in our lives to show us the way, to teach us things we can never study in books. some mentors teach us life lessons, some share their experiences, some teach us by the way they live and examples for us to follow, all mentors are teachers (tho not all teachers are mentors).
anyway the mentors in my life come and go. some are short lived (like few mths), some are longer (few years)....tho i dun really have much mentors...few spiritual mentors while i was growing as a christian, yt of cos and lijun cd, my dgl in crusade. and at work i had a very short-lived mentor boss who showed me the difference a christian businessman can make in the business world, the values he has managing people, in viewing his employees, in managing ministry and work. and now another mentor whom i really appreciate from the beginning...tho it was hard to talk to him at first but i think he's like some walking encyclopedia, full of experience and wit and knowledge you can never ever learn in books...so i look up to him a lot, that's more of work. i think that's just the fun and challenge of work. learning. (i'm not disqualifying book-study but that learning doesn't stop after school)...then again we learn so that we can teach the others who come after us.

Crazy to whom?

Every weekend
I find my weekend always so filled. Somehow it's quite fun. In the midst of work (aka tuition and my work) and cell and church and family time (because we try our best to spend time with my meimei and mum).
this week we went to the New Balance Real Run....no pics because i never got over to Sentosa at all. Of course i didn't run while the 3 guys went on with their idea of fun...running on road, terrain and sand. (Ww later concluded that he would rather run on flat land than this type of terrains) Still, it's his first REAL Run....coz he missed the last 2 real runs even though he signed up.
and what was i doing? i had a great time to get to know A better...talking about anything everything and i enjoyed talking to her thoroughly. we were at Mac sharing a breakfast (even tho we have eaten our breakfast at 6am). somehow it's great to know someone who is going thru similar stuff, about married life, how we are adjusting, about God, about our work, about family planning, our own families, our new houses etc etc.
Ww and i didn't go home after that tho...and after many change of plans, we ended up walking around city hall...his first look at the new Raffles city basement...and after searching for a cd that is out of stock thru-out all Sembawang outlets in SG (some album by Damage), we ended up buying a 陶喆 cd that we're still listening over and over again. anyway in a means to support anti-piracy (you know, don't steal songs) we have deleted all songs which do not belong to us, if we borrow cds, the songs are in the computer or ipod as long as we hold the cd. after which it gets deleted from them. it's a difficult thing to do, because i end up listening to same song over and over again....of cos until i discover RealPlayer makes it possible to listen to radio online. so meanwhile...we buy cds we feel is really worth buying...and after so long i think i still like 陶喆 songs. and one particular song is so corny...we couldn't help laughing about it and improvising it. of course his "太美麗 Beautiful" is our fav song of the cd.
and a more unexpected stuff was buying more furnitures for our house! gosh! anyway will talk mo about it elsewhere.
yb asked me about photoworthy architecture or places to go to take photo...and that got me thinking and wondering of the many places in SG that are really of character, not the common orchard, nor the familiar esplanade. maybe these places are characteristic because i've been there and these places left an unforgettable impression on me. then again, every place has its own memories or uniqueness and it depends on the art of capturing that. meanwhile i thot of listing some i think is a great place...
in no particular order...
1. Emerald Hill
[discovered this quaint space between centrepoint and orchard emerald, behind peranakan place while doing my Yr1 aki proj to understand the urban landscape. fell in love with this place...there's a mix of pubs and shops (i think there's a jewellery craft shop), and deeper in are residential apartments. those houses are my dream houses. a shophouse like this. but it must cost like millions..so it's a dream house. anyway did u know we took or wedding pics at this place...and the see-saw too? just that the see-saw didn't turn out nice tho]
2.Mt Sophia
[discovered this place while doing my 3rd yr project, one of my most fun ones. i grew to love this place after going through it umpteen times, going through every exit and every entrance possible. it links to the istana, and a unused private apartment which was a shortcut to plaza singapura..now it's developing to a new condo...very unique church designs there too..it's a space of shortcuts anyway...which was how our project's concept ended up to be.]
3. Changi Broadwalk
[not so much for the architecture but for the beach and the non-sand because there's a broadwalk. a long broadwalk tho..by the sea, the kelong, then in the hills, then out to the sea and to the end to see the sunset...and try to spot the hdb flats in the far distance.]
4. Merlion park
[they have renovated this place to be quite a nice place to view the sea but before it was like this, the building was old and full of character (one of my aki modules required us to draw that boat house so we kinda counted all the large bricks there to get the right dimensions). there were benches there overseeing the river, under a large tree that gave good shade. very peaceful. so we used to have lunch there when we were temp-ing during our holidays, it was a good escape from the busy Raffles place lunch hour.]
5. All the shophouses around Tanjong Pagar area, behind Maxwell market
[it's different once you walking into those shophouses area...the atmosphere immediately changes. it's quieter and every shophouse has its own quirks and weirds about them. some with their history like the tiles they preserved, or that hole in the ceiling which was supposed to be used to pully up boxes of supplies in the olden days. some are offices and have a sterilized feel to them but still the mood is different with these old or new shophouses. my 1st temp job at Keppel towers gave me time to explore this area...and even go for a swim after work at the very old swimming pool nearby, i think it's vacant already...(it was older than bedok pool) this Vanda Miss Joaquim park is just next to it, what a name!
but what's more memorable are the memories attached to the place. i have a memory of huge colonial house at katong i went to when i was young with my parents...with large gardens and a huge living room...but all i remember is the feel of the space and the memory of the house as a whole, i can't remember the furniture, the details....tho i still remember being chased by the dog.
there must be more interesting spaces in SG yet to be discovered...i love urban trekking. and Ww says it's hard to find someone who don't mind walking so much..."really?" i asked him. yeah...we have walked many places in SG and it was fun discovering and walking. (you know it's good not to have a car at times).
i can go on and on...been especially bloggative...i'm not sure why, i betta go zz le.

Let there be light
today's our 9th mth anniversary. and i happened to stumble upon a website from a forum i was too lazy to get out of (so they send all discussions to my email...flooding my emails most of the time). but this is really nice...and photography co called "Let there be light" while i snap like boliao photos here and there, i really appreciate good photography. wedding & pre-wedding photography is really super ex actually, esp for the renowned photogrphers and prices start from more than $1k for those super pro kinds. i always wonder whether it's really worth it or not and for many of the pro-ones, the outcome is beautiful. (i can't be too sure tho since what i see is all on the website..and of course they have to put the best ones). but i still love the photographs from our wedding take by our bro & sis...it's always great to work with photographers you're most comfortable with...and i really appreciate our photographers for our wedding.
laughter and expressions are the most impactful images to capture.
anyway our online photoalbum is on the verge of being deleted in another 17 days...i won't buy any photoprints (who's gonna deliver it to SG anyway?) and i won't pay US$15 to signup as a member. so i'll let it be.
i hope i can start to have some rest soon....

come sunday
i'm looking forward to sunday. REAL run. and some quality time with Ww.
we've been so bz. and i got myself into another tuition...not so much for the money but to help. and weekends of meeting ppl..i'm starting to do drawings which take up a lot of my time. and if i come home after Ww, this is the state of our study table. mess!! (which clears up the next morning after he goes to school) you see..a teacher's job never ends after he/she steps out of the school gate.
and on wed night my co was supposed to have a badminton tournament prac...but they booked the court too late and we ended up going to eat. this looked nicer before i mixed it up but i only remembered to snap a pic after all the excitement of cooking my teppanyaki beef rice.
i really should be sleeping le...it's late. just feel like i'm running a marathon and looking forward to some rest.

interesting....of cos meanwhile i'm quite absorbed with my work till i somewhat do work at home...but i don't feel it. still got to watch my weekly dose of tv this week (i only watch tv on monday...chasing after the series Grey's Anatomy...and soon America's next top model)...otherwise i usually forget all other shows i wish i want to watch but never watch. i finished today's newspaper (and the tmr's one will come..gee).
and i had the most exciting news frm my close friend sh that she's pregnant! wooo...waaa! wah man...so exciting. i'm super happy for her :D i told her by the time i do...she can advise me on all abt being pregnant & taking care of babies stuff. she asked me when will be my turn....haa. not so soon (reminds me of what my bridal studio boss was warning me abt when jh & i went to rent a gown there...he said gotta let things take its course...and not to wait too long or plan too much. anyway he got like 4 kids). i told her when i do...her baby will be like 1 yr+ older than mine. we're planning yah got lah...house first...then baby after that...must take care of the finances properly. (i feel like what i teach in social studies so true...so true of SG women)
my dad asked if i'm interested to go star cruise on 1st weekend of the sep hols...free! but Ww has BB camp :( oh whell...it'll be too complicated to kidnap my sis to go with me anyway...and there's not much to shop on star cruise...she's my fav shopping companion.

bzlink
new ikea collection which we'll most likely integrate for our study. we thot it's kinda sturdy enough yah...better than the wood ones they have and cheaper than fabricating. we even thought of how many we need to buy, how to arrange them on the wall with that centre glass panel.
anyway i thought of creating a new blog for my home renovation process but at the rate my work is going i don't seem to have time to wander around online typing boliao stuff. i just either have endless pics to scan or webbies to search (oh have u cheaked out ikea australia?
i had so much fun piecing in the wardrobe configuration...that's what u can do with modular stuff like ikea). geez i'm such a ikea fan. even tho we complain that the billy bookshelves are like lousy and smiling at us (we have 4 sets at home....another 4 sets at my mum's place), even tho we never really bought the kitchen system even tho i think it's quite cool confirguring it, even tho we always think all the furnitures are particleboard (nopz they have those in MDF, solid woods wat), even tho we think that cheapo stuff don't last (some of my ikea stuff is still around since i was a toddler, like the yellow chair at my ol' room...the other 3 broke liao). if u got too much time read this. it's such a rage that ikea is coming to tampines at the end of the year...wah man.
i wonder at the massive amount of wood we use nowadays (paper, plywood, solid timber flooring, books, furniture) i wonder when will they run out. as it is, getting unique woods like oak, chengai etc is already so ex le.
phews....so much for ikea-ing. we had a interesting discussion during sun sch today abt mega churches and stuff, quite interesting and thought provoking..tho the context was US churches (and some US history) and in the light of 1 Cor 9:9-23. we discussed about how much u think a pastor's salary should be...is there a cap? oh cool...anyway i found the article online here. and a page of the responds from readers here. anyway these are stuff where somehow what is really a lot of things are debatable...and we can go on and on and on...and i've written too much and so i'm sleepy le...i wish i have better time to craft my words but i'm have terrible memory for precise words i hear. yawns

Pre-national day
it's the day schools have mega national day celebrations..and everyone's gearing up to wear red & white. yups and it's the day i took a day off! mainly to spend time with Ww otherwise i'll still be working away and i'm working on national day! :S
so today i put down my list of work to do-s....(tho i have to do one drawing before tmr comes..but i'll do it tonight) and go out to settle some house stuff, go for facial & then go ikea!
last night we had time to reflect on our interesting weekend...the things we've heard and learnt in GOTC, about the sunday's 'coffee talk' by a missionary...about our life. shared about the stuff that we heard that struck us and caused us to think. about our life in the light of eternity, about God who is the main role in our life and us as supporting role, about taking a stint of 2 years in Dulos, or drop our stuff and serve as a missionary to open roads for others like what the missionary who shared does, about what really matters. it's all about God. and even our new house, we want it to be a place to bless others as well...i don't excactly know how it will be but we'll leave it to God. it's part of the excitement.

My fav book of the bible
it took me quite long to figure out what's my fav book of the bible...whell till today i kinda conclude that..it's...*drum roll*...Ecclesiastes!
it's a lil bleak because the author, Son of David (critcs debate over whether it's author is Solomon or the author writing in the perspective of Solomon), talk about the meaninglessness of things and vanity. but there's so much wisdom in this book...thought-provoking nuggets of wisdom...which of course in the end is the conclusion that
"Now all has been heard;
here is the conclusion of the matter:
Fear God and keep his commandments,
for this is the whole duty of man.

before i go to work
i still have work to do...at home. whell...it depends on how urgent it is. i have a mountain of information and images to sift thru. but more urgently other stuff to design and draw. some of which i can only do it at home.
oh as much as i have to do, i still love it, weirdly. of cos i hope to see the fruits of my labour soon.
it's somewhat like doing stuff i would be doing in my free time.
still, i gotta rush some work out...there are still datelines to keep etc.
anyway, the next set of appliance bought le.
- hood
- vitroceramic hob that looks like this....easy to clean and seamless. at first Ww wanted it coz it's safer (i didn't think so...after all we have been using gas cookers since so long ago) but i luv it for the easy to clean part. tho electricity consumption part may be a little higher. and it cooks fast, cooks evenly..but no woks pls...

at the mayer's sale...it's much cheaper than buying from dealers tho..so we swiped and got ourselves in another extra debt for the next 24mths.
