how to decode Da Vinci

I've read the book long long ago...just when the craze started, and surely it's still picking up. with the movie coming up on may 19, it's gonna be even more publicized. other than reading the book, and even seeing brochures on the Da Vinci thingy...arguements, who's right who's wrong, what's the real thing etc. i never got down to digest the information.

yeap, it has really created so much controvesy...and i was reading this email devotional by John Fischer, he writes:
"Though the story is clearly fiction, it will raise questions in people’s minds about the validity of the sources through which the story of Christ and his disciples has come down to us. In other words: We have homework to do. I suggest we turn this cultural event into an opportunity for dialogue, not a call to battle.

....

We don’t have to defend God or win a culture war. God is perfectly capable of taking care of himself. Dan Brown, and our culture in response, has brought up the subject of Christ and the early days of church history. By making our conversation positive and seasoned with grace, we can point people toward the truth instead of driving them away from us.

“But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice.” (Philippians 1:18 NIV) "

Really, that struck me. We don't have to defend God. We don't have to win someone in an arguement of who's right and wrong, esp in things like these. It's more of an opportunity to turn others to God....not away. It's not about being right.

Went to Ikea with my colleague today, ate my fav swedish meatballs and Earl grey tea. too bad we didn't have much time coz we only reach there about 8pm. but somehow i discovered that i've bought quite a bit of bo-liao yet possibly useful stuff that i haven't used yet. i was telling my colleague (kinda sheepishly after quite a number of times) that i also bought that and that and that b4...and errr...had no use for it at this moment. i always think it'll be useful in future...heh. i love ikea stuff....even tho some things are really not the best quality. but still...who cares, it's branded cheap stuff.

Mood for blogs

I have one urgent task for tonight...i have other tasks that are somewhat needed to be done but not important...so i won't have time to do it and i'll forget about it for the day and remember it at night. whops. nvb. i find myself forgetting things...tiny detail things which makes me feel like i wanna kick myself, i just don't remember it at the right time!

whell..so writing a good long blog requires an inspiration, a mood and some nice background music. while i'm trying to create that atmosphere...i'm in no mood for writing something useful or substantial and just writing more or less rubbish and whatever goes thru my mind here.

friends. other than my kakis since sec 1, we've somewhat scattered all over now...except for jh, tho still connected in someway or another. trying to find a time to go pator with my chocoli and pass her her weddin dvd. but tuitions taking up my time these 2 weeks. i love my friends, enjoy their company, love to talk and laugh with them, do boliao things, help them with stuff, do stuff together. but being in an non-school environment...maintaining friendships are more challenging than when we were still in school.

frm my Radiant mag email subscription:
The Fight for Friendship
By Kristin Markham
" It turned out making friends wasn’t the hard part at all. Maintaining these new friendships in the twentysomething years proved the difficult task. This stage of life seemed to fly by in a flurry of activity—work, boyfriends/husbands, hobbies, church, engagements, wedding showers, then baby showers. The new girlfriends I made were preoccupied just trying to juggle their own busy schedules. "

and we are busy...first with work..and after work (prob more work..OTOTOT), then with our husbands or bfs, then with church, then with big events etc. life isn't so simple anymore because the possiblities are endless on how we use our time, and we no longer have the same time table.

"One night, I was reading from John and Stasi Eldredge’s book Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Woman’s Soul (Nelson Books). Stasi happened to touch upon the very issue I was dealing with: “Friendships need to be nurtured and guarded and fought for. We need to call one another without waiting to be called first. We need to ask how our friends are doing and really listen to their answers … we love our friends by pursuing them.” "

honestly, i'm not a talking on the phone kinda person...the only person i frequently talk on the phone is Ww (last time...now we can just be beside each other). i prefer going to have dinner or coffee or tea with friends...and shopping as well (tho not as often). it's great to be asked how i've been even tho it's just a simple question...so i also want to know how my friend is as well, either out of kaponess and really wanting to know her better. and over msn? it's not enough talking space to converse, even on the phone (because of the awareness of time limits and costs).

"It’s not about having five or 10 or 20 good friends. It’s about being one good friend. It’s about humbly realizing that this fight for lasting friendship inevitably starts with me."

yeah....it's time...and love. sometimes i neglect giving enough concern...or sometimes it's too mafan to do so, or sometimes i'm just selfish or lazy.
Lord, help me to be a good friend.

Weried

i like the quiet night times...listening to nice music. tho now my eyes are tired out from all the marking...it's great to pause here for a while. if i close my eyes i'll doze off.

Ww brought back mountains of marking...it's creating himalayans on our study table. so being a helpful wife i am and also so sympathetic of my poor Ww, i helped mark all those i can mark while he concentrates on the compos (which still hasn't finished since i dunno when!), and his back-dated lesson plans & oh too late to finish book review. the thing is when i start on one stack i have to finish it by hook or by crook, it feels uneasy stopping halfway. so i've finished 4 stacks of marking. there's more but i can't take it le...if only i had more time..or more energy.

i was reading something on my just received Relevant mag which struck me a lot.....but now...i too lazy to write le. it's gonna be a super busy week coz exams r around the corner (extra extra tuitions) and i suddenly have more work (which is also a gd thing). thank God work starts late for me...so i can sleep in. but tmr i've gotta go by our new house to wait for the S'pore Power guy to come and turn the electricity and water on...oooo.. exciting :) after it's turned on, we'll prob pop by in the evening together to see the house..and feel wat's it like to have it belong to us.

The rain just came like that

Yeah...i thought i was someone's car...and at 1.30am...the rain just gradually and quickly poured. wooooh. the splatter of the droplets sound scary enough. but i love rainy days at home. it feels safe.

and now i'm hungry..:(
but i'll wait for breakfast.

it's gonna be quite a weekend! not much rest...tho i'm looking forward to sunday evening. coz it'll be rest then..hopefully. if i'm not like thinking of the next day or whatever i haven't done yet.

and yes we've got our keys. but we just got no time to go down to see the place together...and whatever time we probably have, it's at night...but without the electricity on yet..haa no use going yah? holidays come soon!

sleep now...

Keys!

We got our keys today! so we now officially own a hdb flat unit (that's somewhat too big for us...but i don't care...i love huge houses and a large hdb is still a small house). yay!
meanwhile for the next 8 months, we'll be admiring the empty house (and fix that super slow dripping water issue) and dreaming of what we can do to it. it'll be a long and time to plan for reno lo.

i shouldn't be blogging...now

uh..because i still got things to do. so much for talking about time usage in my previous entry.

so much things that i don't have time to find a time where i dunno what to do. helping Ww mark a lot of stuff...and then i still haven't got the dinner invites done yet!! :S time together is also limited...it's just the time b4 we (or more like Ww) sleep...weekends are just about the same. while i'm having lotsa stuff to do, i think Ww's like overloaded...oops...with tuitions, the neverending marking (reminds me of the song..."this is the song that never ends, and it goes on and on my friend"), parents complaints to handle (tsk tsk parents nowadays...), 2-3 courses to attend a week, and what nots...this is the life a pri sch teacher. anyway weekends are just days where i don't step into office...somehow...it isn't really a rest time. ok...i'm also filled with tuitions...and still took on a new one recently. cos it's good value lo...and we really really gotta save up. somehow everytime we save that bit, it just goes somewhere else...(like tmr to pay the agent fees for our house) and poof the money's gone. :( so dun expect us to try renovating our house any time this year. maybe we shouldn't go bintan in june le. i get stressed thinking of all the camps and juggling my work.

but i think blogging calms me...(even though i'm multi-tasking..scanning pics aft pics from a mag i have to return tmr). it gives me time to reflect about things, to enjoy them, to rethink them, to remember good and bad things. before blogging came about, i was journalling all over the place (ok...exaggerating)..but there were notebooks after notebooks, sometimes postcards to jot down my quiet time reflection, and then i started typing instead of writing...and now here. it's an obsession i started since i was pri sch...so it's just me. mayb i can compile my life with all these jounals....tho God has His own of my life, and everyone's too...aie..so save the trouble...since all these physical things will no longer matter much in eternity.

anyway dinner was not so tiring today because we ate at home...and as usual the boys were cute and smarter...

5 mths

5 mths le. happy anniversary to us!
no big fanfare celebration this month...we're having family dinner to celebrate my mum-in-law's bday at i-dunno-where yet coz no one can decide as yet. it's right in the middle of the week coz Ww's sis and her husband are not working. so we'll see how tmr :)

over the weekend....
Cell had cell at bedok reservoir...didn't feel really prepared tho...but still have been encouraged by cell's sharing and insights.

and a quite relaxing basketball match...YZ vs YZ. hehh..but our team lost by 1 mark! oh whell..still it's quite a fun match anyway. the rain kinda got us all stuck in the stadium and in the end i decided to go to my mum's place for dinner...and pick up Ww's marking and books that he left there

So we had a nice dinner. mum cooked fried tofu...yums. :)

anyway, it's been such a busy week, i can't seem to pinpoint what i'm busy about. sometimes it's work, sometimes it's tuition, sometimes it's spending time with friends and family, sometimes it's church activities.or mayb it's coz i ran on friday night that i felt so tired the past few days...hmm. but i feel my strength coming back..heheheh...that's why i'm still up at 2:48am, after finishing up the Parents' Day flyer. i've still got a long list of to-do. not that long...but still long.it's just whether it's really important or not.

sometimes i'm just unsettled. this morning i had to drop by our to-be new house to check for defects...at 830am (oso cos i got to go down to site by 10am). i couldn't seem to sit down and pray properly, much less read the bible. sighz. so i brought along a book to read on my way to site...i read C:6 "What clamours your attention?"

"We're all born with one thing in common: time. ... But regardless of how much you get, you have a responsibility to spend it well. Imagine spending one dollar every second. Some you spend on candy, some on entertainment, some on giving to the needy and so on. Time is no different. As each moment passes, you have spent a moment that can never return. ... ...but you can't get it back. How we spend our time plays out in a series of choices, every moment, every day."

i kinda cringe at the times i've wasted my time, or didn't make the right choices in how my time is to be spent. which is more valuable? sometimes at the crux of time, i don't make good enough decisions...the good decisions are those that will please God...and i choose the other. sometimes value is hard to weigh.

the author quotes Charles Swindoll "Guard against the tyranny of the urgent. The most important things will seldom scream for your attention, they will simply wait for you to discover them. Things like prayer, Scripture study, cultivating friendships, thinking, enjoying art. The loud and demanding are rarely as important as these."

enjoying art. how fun... :) i'm like dying to take a walk through exhibitions and pause to think, or now i'm itching to stroll around in those furniture shops to see furnitures and how they are made...but other than i've got no time...these things don't seem to be as impt as many other things that clamours for my attention.

there's more....but i'll have to save writing it for another day.
better get to zz le.

dinner with a friend

Met a gd ol' aki friend for dinner yesterday. at this place called Menotti...italian restaurant at Raffles city. the portions were just nice and taste like wow. this is the ceasar salad...and the cheeseeeeee...yum..(you know it's just cheedar cheese & lettuce & garlic bread) but so refreshing.

had some seafood pasta...name to chim to remember. gelato (smoooth!) and nice cafelatte.

nice cozy setting but a lil squeezy tho...but nevertheless we had so much to catch up and chat about. talking with her always inspires me about design...or pursuing good design...and about art and christianity, something we don't really bother much in SG as in usa, where she studied. and we always appreciating our aki education and the way it makes us view the built-up environment in a different way. anyway we popped by another cafe after that again...having this yummy bread & cheese cake with teh. we only had to end off coz i had to catch my hopefully last 518 bus back home.

and i bought our house floor plan!! ahahahahaha...
but i got no time to work something out yet coz i got 2 appts tmr i've gotta prep..and helpin Ww with his marking or counting money or wateva.
maybe we will really renovate it b4 the end of the year...or before our 1st yr anniversary. but it depends on how much funds we have available also... :( we thought we could do it up next year and use the rest of the year to save money for our house reno. see how la...we believe God will provide accordingly.

fats and food

good food that doesn't exercise becomes fats. and i'm feeling fat le...no exercise at all...at least Ww went to climb mountain in johor...worked out and had a nice tan. me? errr...i'm devising a plan...mayb sign up some pilates lesson. hmm..

not helping my maintain my fat levels...we went to coffee bean for dinner coz Ww was craving for some good nice food (after eating campfire-type food over the weekend)..and we ate this:

i love this chicken mushroom pasty dish...but to finish one plate is too much for me...this is the kind of dish you share with a girlfriend coz by the time i'm reaching halfway thru the dish it tastes too creamy to go on. so sharing this dish is always a gd and cheap option. $8.50 for a generous portion of chicken, mushroom, cheeeese(!) and super cream. Ww slurped everything on his plate without any problem, tho he couldn't finish mine...too creamy. and finished off with our fav White choclate dream coffee.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
on another note....i'm deeply saddened by something's that's happening. i don't really know how to say it. now i'm starting to believe that what he says is kinda true...and if things had happened the second time, how can he con't to trust her anymore, how can she deserve his love? or maybe she doesn't what it? can you love someone for a long while and find that another person is better? then mayb she hasn't really loved him....or she thought she did. then mayb she doesn't really love the other either. is it a character flaw? that one will be fickle minded about whom to love? or when something crops up, some differences and it's the end? ok....tho that's what we see those hollywood stars are doing. hollywood stars gossip news are like watching a movie but when it comes to someone close to you...it's reality.
i'm disappointed. sighz.

i luv my sis

i was juz ramaging thru the emac at my mum's place...transferred most of my photos over to the imac le...but still had some lingering arnd in e emac with my sis. so this was what i found.

actually there was a lot of her photos...her school ones, project ones, lots of self-taken ones...qiao2 leh...and in the midst of it found lots of ours. actually we luv to take photos of ourselves...ok...qiao2 la. we discovered the cool usefulness of using the mirror to take photos, and the usual stretch your arm far far, or the timer method. so guess which is pic is taken by which method? which also means that there's a lot of blur ones, out of focus ones, wrong expression ones, cut off ones. see what has the digital technology changed our lives? now she got mo photos of her teenage years than me.

meimei growing up le...can really see how she change. really thank God for meimei. we've had fun times just going out to pasir ris for picnic, go chinatown to help her with her sch proj on chinese new yr (when everything there is closed), go kampung glam just to urban trek..and ended up taking photos in a pretty toilet, or try out clothes in the huge cktang changing room and taking photos, or juz going for dinner..and shopping, or some experimental cooking & baking etc etc. ok..we've had angry times too but not much...gosh..i really can't remember any! hmm...or maybe we don't. we juz give and take, esp take turns on using the emac last time, using the bathrm...

whell living apart is kinda difficult coz i dun hav her around to nag (how come so messy? u haven't study ah? wake up!...), and my wardrobe has been cut in half (somewhat la...coz we can share each others skirts, shirts, dress, bags, shoes, accessories..very convenient), and chase after tv shows together, and it's hard to coordinate a time to help her with her sch work nowadays..and i'm worried abt her sch work. :S oh but i'm not complaining la...juz that with changes, we have to adjust to the little inconveniences that were once stuff we're used to.

i luv her all the same. and i always pray that she'll come to know God as her Lord and Savior. please God.

and i miss weiwen.
