this week we went to the New Balance Real Run....no pics because i never got over to Sentosa at all. Of course i didn't run while the 3 guys went on with their idea of fun...running on road, terrain and sand. (Ww later concluded that he would rather run on flat land than this type of terrains) Still, it's his first REAL Run....coz he missed the last 2 real runs even though he signed up.
and what was i doing? i had a great time to get to know A better...talking about anything everything and i enjoyed talking to her thoroughly. we were at Mac sharing a breakfast (even tho we have eaten our breakfast at 6am). somehow it's great to know someone who is going thru similar stuff, about married life, how we are adjusting, about God, about our work, about family planning, our own families, our new houses etc etc.
Ww and i didn't go home after that tho...and after many change of plans, we ended up walking around city hall...his first look at the new Raffles city basement...and after searching for a cd that is out of stock thru-out all Sembawang outlets in SG (some album by Damage), we ended up buying a 陶喆 cd that we're still listening over and over again. anyway in a means to support anti-piracy (you know, don't steal songs) we have deleted all songs which do not belong to us, if we borrow cds, the songs are in the computer or ipod as long as we hold the cd. after which it gets deleted from them. it's a difficult thing to do, because i end up listening to same song over and over again....of cos until i discover RealPlayer makes it possible to listen to radio online. so meanwhile...we buy cds we feel is really worth buying...and after so long i think i still like 陶喆 songs. and one particular song is so corny...we couldn't help laughing about it and improvising it. of course his "太美麗 Beautiful" is our fav song of the cd.
and a more unexpected stuff was buying more furnitures for our house! gosh! anyway will talk mo about it elsewhere.
yb asked me about photoworthy architecture or places to go to take photo...and that got me thinking and wondering of the many places in SG that are really of character, not the common orchard, nor the familiar esplanade. maybe these places are characteristic because i've been there and these places left an unforgettable impression on me. then again, every place has its own memories or uniqueness and it depends on the art of capturing that. meanwhile i thot of listing some i think is a great place...
in no particular order...
1. Emerald Hill
[discovered this quaint space between centrepoint and orchard emerald, behind peranakan place while doing my Yr1 aki proj to understand the urban landscape. fell in love with this place...there's a mix of pubs and shops (i think there's a jewellery craft shop), and deeper in are residential apartments. those houses are my dream houses. a shophouse like this. but it must cost like millions..so it's a dream house. anyway did u know we took or wedding pics at this place...and the see-saw too? just that the see-saw didn't turn out nice tho]
2.Mt Sophia
[discovered this place while doing my 3rd yr project, one of my most fun ones. i grew to love this place after going through it umpteen times, going through every exit and every entrance possible. it links to the istana, and a unused private apartment which was a shortcut to plaza singapura..now it's developing to a new condo...very unique church designs there too..it's a space of shortcuts anyway...which was how our project's concept ended up to be.]
3. Changi Broadwalk
[not so much for the architecture but for the beach and the non-sand because there's a broadwalk. a long broadwalk tho..by the sea, the kelong, then in the hills, then out to the sea and to the end to see the sunset...and try to spot the hdb flats in the far distance.]
4. Merlion park
[they have renovated this place to be quite a nice place to view the sea but before it was like this, the building was old and full of character (one of my aki modules required us to draw that boat house so we kinda counted all the large bricks there to get the right dimensions). there were benches there overseeing the river, under a large tree that gave good shade. very peaceful. so we used to have lunch there when we were temp-ing during our holidays, it was a good escape from the busy Raffles place lunch hour.]
5. All the shophouses around Tanjong Pagar area, behind Maxwell market
[it's different once you walking into those shophouses area...the atmosphere immediately changes. it's quieter and every shophouse has its own quirks and weirds about them. some with their history like the tiles they preserved, or that hole in the ceiling which was supposed to be used to pully up boxes of supplies in the olden days. some are offices and have a sterilized feel to them but still the mood is different with these old or new shophouses. my 1st temp job at Keppel towers gave me time to explore this area...and even go for a swim after work at the very old swimming pool nearby, i think it's vacant already...(it was older than bedok pool) this Vanda Miss Joaquim park is just next to it, what a name!
but what's more memorable are the memories attached to the place. i have a memory of huge colonial house at katong i went to when i was young with my parents...with large gardens and a huge living room...but all i remember is the feel of the space and the memory of the house as a whole, i can't remember the furniture, the details....tho i still remember being chased by the dog.
there must be more interesting spaces in SG yet to be discovered...i love urban trekking. and Ww says it's hard to find someone who don't mind walking so much..."really?" i asked him. yeah...we have walked many places in SG and it was fun discovering and walking. (you know it's good not to have a car at times).
i can go on and on...been especially bloggative...i'm not sure why, i betta go zz le.
